Retail work has often been the proverbial trope in television shows to illustrate women seeking independence or something to “shake up their routine” beyond things like childcare, cooking, and cleaning. But the closure of stores amid the pandemic is not just a matter of communities losing jobs. It’s also women losing opportunities to have a chance at independence, economic freedom, increasing their earning potential, and supporting themselves and their families.

On Sept. 28, 2017, in Texas, the A's were playing their first road series after Maxwell had begun kneeling. The sniper jokes felt too real to be funny, and soon Maxwell began interpreting them another way: In the event of an attack on him, his teammates were telling him nobody would have his back. By this point, it hadn't been lost on him that none of his Black teammates or other Black players in the league had joined in the protest or even offered robust verbal protection. He was alone. "It is much easier being Black when there are other Black people around you," Maxwell says. "There was no one. People are saying what they should have done. They're saying it now, but no one was saying anything then."

Whatever else you want to say about police officers, they know — whether they articulate it neatly or not — that we are asking them to step into a breach left by our bad policies. The creation of more-just systems won’t guarantee the prevention of atrocities. But the status quo in cities, created by white liberals, invites brutal policing.

Stay On Script! Do You Want Chelsea Clinton To Lose In 2032?

One of the most maddening aspects of liberals' response to Edward Snowden and the NSA scandal was the talk about the Democrats potential loss in the 2014 midterms. The conversation would go something like "stop talking/hyping up X because there is an election coming in Y. Do you want 'us' to lose our majority!" This is the kind of asinine argument that keeps me up at night. It's troubling to me that people are so associated with a party that anyone who goes "off script," so to speak, is considered so dangerous. I am a human being, not a Democrat or Republican or Libertarian. To me, it does not matter what party you are in. What matters is specific issues and how they relate to me and my own personal values. If Democrats are so concerned about losing an election or congressional majority, perhaps they should not bullying people who dissent from their talking points. Perhaps as well, they could run candidates who actually stick to what they claim to believe in, or are not corrupt.

I find it insulting to me as a human being with my own views and soul that I must always conform and be constantly worrying about obeying some party creed because of a forthcoming election. A party whose members constantly rank on me for defying that will never get my vote.

It's Just One Pig Replacing Another

“I didn’t consider myself a nihilist at that time but certainly Black Flag had songs like ‘No Values’, which Greg wrote, that espoused that mind set. But I believed in shooting the cops, I believed in violent revolution. I thought we should just clear the fucking slate and I don’t think that any more. The real villains just make money off the blood of the common person in a violent revolution. It’s just one pig replacing another.”

From “Spray Paint The Walls: The Story of Black Flag

I have been thinking about this quote a lot in regards to the events happening in Egypt right now. It sure fits our own political structure here in the USA. Democrat, Republican, Libertarian...all of them are pigs. Women, workers, students, and veterans just keep getting screwed no matter who runs things. Choosing between these people is about as sincere a choice as picking Pepsi over Coke.
